A Vogue cover of Vice President Kamala Harris was taken by Tyler Mitchell, the first and still only black photographer to shoot in 2018 a Vogue cover (his subject was Beyoncé).
CasaGalleria MonteGeneroso is proud to have “Modern Family” an iconic Tyler Mitchell’s artwork in our collection. But who is Tyler Mitchell? An American young photographer (born in 1995) and New York based. His renown for documenting nuanced expressions of black life, featuring photographs of black people enjoying daily life, predominantly outdoors, which the New York Times asserts "challenges the art historical renderings of leisure time as the ken of the white gentry.” Mitchell is part of the New Black Vanguard in fashion photography, because he “rethinks how the fashion image can be less censorious and more reflective of real life.” Mitchell’s images are encoded with this new language of representation, which broadens the understanding of desire for the consumer, the viewer, and the model alike.
